Franer1About Us

Serving the art and framing community, the Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA), leads its members to discover new business opportunities and enhance custom framing skills.  The Mountain & Plains PPFA Chapter, Inc., serves most of the State of Colorado and the eastern parts of Kansas and Nebraska.  The chapter was formed in October of 2004 and is overseen by a Board of Directors and PPFA International.

Chapter Events

The Mountain & Plains Chapter offers three to four educational events each year.  At each event, a nationally known speaker teaches classes on a range of topics related to the Picture Framing industry.  The classes are usually offered on Sunday, when most frame shops are closed, and are at a minimal cost.  Hands-on classes offered in the past have included:  French Matting and Gilded Accents, Compo Corners & Altered Finishes, Mat Design, Fabric Wrapping, Perfect Fit Fillets, and Shadowbox Designing.  Business classes have also been offered and have included:  Turning a Buying Advantage into a Selling Advantage, Adapting to a Changing Industry, and Are You Making Money?.

CPF Exam

Each year, the chapter offers the CPF exam to any member or non-member that want to take the test.  It is a four hour test with 150 questions on all aspects of the framing industry.  In 2006, we had 5 framers pass the test and become Certified Picture Framers.  In 2007, 2 more framers became certified.  We added 3 more CPF's in 2008, which brings the total to 10 new CPF's since the chapter began.  The chapter has a library of all the books for studying for the exam.  Members may check out the books by contacting the chapter librarian.

Framing Competitions

Every year there is the Print and Open Competition for PPFA members.  The print is available for purchase from the chapter and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners can advance to the international competition at the PPFA annual convention.  The open competition entries can be anything the picture framer wants to frame and the top 3 winners can advance to the international competition.
